Part 1 of the Top 10 Life Skills helps you to self-reflect. It focuses on the core life skills of Building self-awareness, Coping with emotions & Coping with stress. You'll learn how to develop your self-awareness by linking your backstory to personal triggers. You'll also better understand emotions and stress, and ways to cope with them.
Part 2 of the Top 10 Life Skills helps you to connect with others. It focuses on the core life skills of Building healthy relationships, Empathy & Effective communication skills. You'll learn how to effectively listen and respond (not react), as well as respect choices (not judge) and assess motivation (not fix) without draining your social battery (not burn out).
Part 3 of the Top 10 Life Skills helps you to find your ‘why’ and explores practical ways to live out what’s most important to you. It focuses on the core life skills of Creative thinking, Critical thinking, Problem solving & Decision-making. You'll examine your current life circumstances using a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats). You'll also explore your values, control and influence issues to help write a life mission statement with possible strategies.
Mental health is based on the tension or gap between who we are and what we can become. This gap does not magically ‘get filled’. We have to ‘choose’ to take ownership of our life and move! This is where Take Your Life Back and the Life Quadrants come in.
Psychology means “study of the soul” and if you want to become a resilient captain of your mind & soul, as well as better understand and care for family members and friends (Quadrants III & IV), it all starts with self-awareness and self-management (Quadrants I & II).
Self-awareness involves being aware of different aspects of yourself including thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Although self-awareness sounds simple enough, it's not. Research suggests that although 95% of people THINK they're self-aware, only 10-15% actually are. So there is a growing gap between how we see ourselves & who we really are.
Self-awareness (Quadrant I) is something we can continually work on throughout our whole life. Once you set sail and begin to understand the importance of self-awareness, you then have the opportunity and freedom to be on deck, take the controls and change things about yourself. This self-management (Quadrant II) is essential in enabling you to adapt to new conditions as you move toward the life that you want. It also gives you insight or social awareness (Quadrant III) into the challenges that family members and friends may be facing. Having become a better captain of your own mind & soul, you can assist family and friends given the opportunity (Quadrant IV).
