"Life Cafe changed my life!" - Karen
Believe it or not, psychology means 'study of the soul'. Although we don't know what the soul is exactly, most people believe they have one and that it requires some sort of soul searching to live out a meaningful life. For example, What is my life all about? What is my place in the world? Who is my tribe? How can I make a difference?
Why should I live a more meaningful life? Research tells us that stress is good for you IF it's meaningful. That is, you live longer and have more life satisfaction when you're living out what's most important to you... Who doesn't want that!
How do I live a more meaningful life? The latest research shows that the ability to move our mindset, restory our life and connect with others all contribute to a life with meaning... which is why all these topic areas are included in our Healthy Minds Workshop @ Life Cafe.
Join clinical psychologist, Dr Paul Whetham, for Healthy Minds and Soul Talk. Checkout our Healthy Minds Reading about social issues and personal growth, it explores the practical skills and services needed to thrive, not just survive, in life.
Life is an adventure to be lived, not a problem to be solved. The old mental health model focuses on individual problems (assessment, diagnosis & treatment). The new wellness model focuses more on holistic health, life skills and supportive communities. This is the direction that Life Cafe Club takes.
Take your life to the next level with our Soul Talk E-Course, Healthy Minds Workshop, FREE Life Cafe and 1:1 Counselling with clinical psychologist, Dr Paul Whetham.
When Socrates said many years ago "The unexamined life is not worth living" he meant that a life without self-reflection is a life without meaning. This is a major challenge today as we live in a technological world full of distractions with little quality time for ourselves and others.
Our Soul Talk E-Course is a semi-structured online adventure designed to help you examine your life inside and out. Most of the material has been successfully used in the training of health professionals at university for many years.
The Soul Talk E-Course contains E-books, skills exercises and wellbeing toolbox. It takes about 30+ hours to complete and is ideal for people who prefer a self-directed challenge or who may not be able to get to our Healthy Minds Workshop.
Our Healthy Minds Workshop helps you to explore, dream and discover a life with more meaning. Our 3 topics reframe mental health and loneliness as part of a quest where you find your personal passion, purpose and place, as well as make a more meaningful contribution to the community.
It's easy to gossip, compare or blame when the people concerned are not around (i.e. communication junk food, projection, time wasting). Soul Talk takes a very different approach, equipping you with practical skills to connect with yourself and others in more authentic and kind ways. This is the core skill of the Community Connector.
You can become a Community Connector at Life Cafe. A Community Connector is simply a skilled friend who comes alongside another to help shed light on their life adventure and connect them to other people and/or services in the community. Their aim is to transform loneliness in the community by fostering friendship, connection and belonging.
Life Cafe is free for adults of all ages. They currently run during school terms in South Australian community centres for 1-hour a week.

Loneliness is an epidemic and a killer. Loneliness affects about 1:2 Americans and 1:3 Australians, it's the equivalent of being a smoker or alcoholic and it can take up to 15 years off your life. Beyond Loneliness Soul Talk Project aims to transform loneliness in the community through the training and support of 'Community Connectors' in Life Cafe Clubs. A Community Connector is simply a skilled friend who comes alongside another to help shed light on their life adventure and connect them to other people and/or services in the community. Become a Community Connector and make an impact in our lonely world today!
